There is a one-room stone schoolhouse located in Busby, Kansas. (Busby is a ghost town, a crossroad consisting of a number of homes). The schoolhouse is still there, in the southwest corner of the crossroad; although it's exterior has been stuccoed over and it's used as a town hall. It was built by stonemason Gust Anderson, a prominent politically-active Swedish immigrant who lived just north/northeast of Busby and he built several prominent homes in the Longton area during the 1870-1890s. A old photo clearly shows a stone engraved plaque inlaid above the front door as customary, but the stucco exterior has obliterated it. The building does not look to be more than a 24x34. It is "School No. 8" on a plat from c1900. It is in Painterhood Twp., Sec 1.

known.

a history of Busby school follows. Says date & contractor name
obscured ... (it has been stuccoed over as I've previously
reported.)
It
says early teachers were : MINTE NICHOLS, VIE EARLY, GEORGE SHARP,
FRANK ORGAN, ED ADAMS.
