Cyclone School -- Crawford County

The Kansas Heritage Server would like to thank Jim Honsicker (captjim2@airmail.net) for contributing this information.

I have some stuff for you. I have a class picture, class of 1925, boys in one picture, girls in another, and am trying to I. D. which students are my aunt and my dad. Also have a picture of the school "back when" with a list of the teachers from 1921 through 1930. I also have another picture of the school with my Dad and my aunt taken around 1975. It was a hay barn at that time. The school was in District 77 and operated from 1878 to 1940. The school was located 2 miles west and 1 mile south of the cemetery at Girard. Dad said that the reason it was named Cyclone School was that when it was being built, a cyclone blew it away and it had to be rebuilt.

I am sending you this now, and as soon as I have the dad and my aunt identified, I will either send you a copy of the pictures or email them to you. I would really like to see all of the info used on the web site.

I wonder , where in Kansas do you live? My dad was born in Arma and my mom was born in Girard. I was born in Mulberry and my sister was born in Pittsburg. I still have some cousins in the area.
